Clutch disk hitting flywheel bolts.

I am putting a clutch in my car.....my flywheel was bad, so I purchased a used on and had it surfaced.....I bolted it on and set the clutch disk in place.....I noticed that the springs from the clutch disk are bumping the flywheel bolts if I rotate my hand. I have seen a couple posts with this mentioned, but no resolution. If you have an Idea, let me know. Thanks.

yeah - that's bad - are you sure the disk isn't in backwards? is it the right disk?

The used FW, did the shop inspect and measure tolerances?

Are you using a Sachs or OEM disc?

Or are you trying to use an improvised "Ford Bronco" style interchange??

clutch disk hitting

I am sure they had no idea on the tollerance for the flywheel. They didn't have to pull too much off of it though....but who knows about the previous times it was turned. I will try to get some measurements of the flywheel as it is. The clutch disk is a sachs but was used. lots of life on it, but at this point I dont know which item is a foul.

Clutch disc hitting.

I got the part number from the disc and googled it.....comse back as a 924 turbo clutch. The guy I got it from swears he had it on his 87 944. So, I dont know....but what I do know is that I dont wanna fabricate something on the clutch disk. I am going to just order a new disk. I tried to save a buck and it cost me......You would think I would learn. haha. Thanks guys for all the input.

huh?

How did you manage THAT? You would need to take down an awful lot of material and I am still not sure it could be done. First of all...could you please post a picture or two? Did you replace the FW bolts with the same head height triple squares? What is the part number and manufacturer of the driven plate?

Compare the old plate (if you still have it) to the new plate....what is the story? Same thing with the driven plate. With the previous specs...can you have the old plate milled within tolerance?

Worse case scenario you could mill down the FW bolts for clearance, but that is only if you have some kind of monster springs and I have never had to do it for a Porsche nor would I recommend it if you had other options....like using the correct parts.

P.S. Get used. plenty of good used parts available and a FW is a great choice. Post a WTB and you will be all set pretty soon. Don't get discouraged at a few setbacks during a clutch, It happens to the best of us.

hittting

John, it was part of the original attempt. The seller on Ebay swears it came off of a late 944. So I figured I would see if anyone could confirm this.
