people want to race all the time

Does anyone else see this? Every day I drive my Porsche some one some where wants to race, could be just driving but mostly from a stop lite. It has to be the car I kinda think it's funny.

Is yours red by any chance? Like the proverbial red rag to the muscle-car bull...

Just think of it as character-building.

No mine is white, must be the name, I kinda like that every where I go I see people turn and look. Even as old a car as it is LOL. My son drove it to his work the other day and a coworker asked him why he was working if he could afford a porsche, if the only knew how little they cost now LOL

I get it more than average with the Porsche, seems people do not like getting passed by a sports car. Just today a guy coming on the on ramp. Just as I was going to pass him at about 75(cruise control setting) he speeds up, so its time to play "How fast do you want to go". I speed up a little, he speeds up...and so on just staying behind them......its really amazing how fast they will go. Mostly see it with young kids driving anything and people driving pick up trucks.

+1. I guess we kinda push the limits of a cars a little and know what they are and still have some room for error, but some people just dont put this into consideration

Example was driving back home a twisty road rated at 40mph i was going 45 + a few MPH and this young girl in a lowered 97 civic passes me. so i speed up and catch up. she speeds to pull away, and this repeats a few more times. I see the her right rear tires trying to lift off the ground more and more so i had to back off as im pretty sure she was about to lift off and crash had i not slowed way down. stupid teenage girl

I get it in my 924s. I just laugh and let them go. There is no better radar detector than a Honda zipping in and out of traffic.

We call them rabbits. They race around and get pulled over. People always wanna race when we are out in the Red S, rarely when in the grey S. I have been signaled by police a few times to slow down when going @ 80 to 90, when other people i know get pulled over and ticketed. I have a theory its because in the Porsche its still a safe speed. ;p

i have several relatives & friends that are police & highway patrol.
The DO take into account if the car is safe at that speed (to a point anyway)
If there are 2 cars going 25 over the speed limit & 1 is a Porsche & the other is a POS rattle trap, the POS is going to get pulled over every time, because it a bigger risk on the road

Nah. They just think you have so much money a ticket wont deter you, you have a good lawyer, and it would be a hassle to try and catch you - lol.

I think of those people as - as you Americans might put it - running interference for me. Or maybe acting as an early-warning system.

We have a lot of radar speed traps in the part of Australia I live in, and long twisting roads. Nothing better than having someone who insists on travelling a little faster than you, and always stays half-a-dozen car-lengths in front of you. Just watch for the sudden application of their brake lights, or listen for the siren...

I have alway used rabbits. Generally in Michigan you will not be pulled over on the highways for anything less than 10 over. So the speed limit is really 80, and most of the time going 80 feels like you are parked as everyone fly passed.

I see this all the time here in Idaho. When I drive the MB SUV, everyone drives normally. Well, they drive like crap, but that is normal here. But when I drive the red 944, everyone from grandpa in the Caddy, to the soccer mom in the mini van, to the kid in the ricer all work really hard to make sure I do not pass by them, or beat them off the light. I drive the car the same as I do the SUV, very conservative.

It is just funny to me.

I used to get that all the time in my beloved red subaru wrx (which WAS, by the way, a lot faster than my 951). I was so sick of boy racer civics and domestic V6's with magna flows reving at my at every stop light that it literally drove me to sell the car and look for something else. Luckily I found a stock 951 with the sewer/manhole lid wheels, so the car looks really dated but still clean. Now I don't get that as much, but I do get sick of people thinking I love flaunting my new Porsche... guys common it is worth less than my last car. It's worth less than your new dodge. I just like the fact that it FEELS like a $50K (when new)

For some reason I get tailgated all the time - it's not kids: almost always incredibly aggressive middle-aged women who drive like a-holes. They are truly a menace. I'm amazed at how they make it to wherever they're going without killing someone. They must be horrible people.

Any time someone gets too close on my tail, I just slow down. It drives them crazy, but they eventually realize what is going on. When they back off, I speed back up.

Just like training a monkey.

In my experience regardless of the car you drive tailgaters are predominately women, young and old. I don't think women make car distinctions in their driving habits.

I got taken, barely, in my 928 by a new hemi challenger. At the next light I rolled down my window and said...... race you to 160

Everybody races out here. I've even had a couple of big trucks want to roll. I stay out of it for the most part but if its dark and the road is empty.

I get people trying to race me a lot. They always want to race from a stop. I have a '88 N/A. A skateboard can beat me from a stop. The car and I are too old for that nonsence anyway.

I drive home at 5:00PM in rush hour traffic through the middle of Denver. The city is a parking lot at that time, and it is always some stupid kid trying to race me into the back end of whoever they are behind. I tried putting a Bush/Quayle '88 bumper sticker on the car (on a magnet of course) to tell them that the car is nearly 25 years old, and I am not. It didn't work.

Yeah... us older folks do it in the dark with no one else around
In all seriousness it is lame to put others at risk. Keep it tame when there are others on the road and only throttle it in unpkpulated areas.
