Drill out bushings when upgrading early fron sway bars?
OK so im having trouble with the end bushings for the front sway bar that attach to the controll arm.
I replaced the stock with the 25.5 front sway got larger brackets and the bushings and they fit. The ends look like they are not going to fit. I know some of you have upgraded you're early cars. what did you do? I'm thinking maybe using a drill bit on the bushing to make it a little bit larger? or maybe a dremel with the littel sandpaper roll attachment. it's all i got left to do on the car and was hoping to get it aligned with the say bar on there.

same here. I used a sway bar from a 951. It didn't take much to drill out.

Thanks guys, I was practicing some drilling on a rubber controll arm bushings and sliced my palm open about 1/4" deep so I super glued it closed and had to use the crenels with the little sand barell and worked well given the handicap . Removed enough meterial so it would push on with the same force as it did on the original early bar

I did this last week, but with a 23mm sway bar but same outer bushings. Taking the busboy off was easy, putting them on was hard. The original bushings were smooth on the inside, and the new (fero? by bilstein I think they were) were skinny in the middle. To get them on I used some moly grease, and put the bar horizontal against a wall with a rag at the wall so I wouldn't scape or harm that side of the bar. Put the bracket with bushing intalled (which was also semi difficult to put together) on the end and used a mallet to get the bushin onto the end of the bar. Tried drilling the bushing, but didn't have the right bit size for the
bushing. I had a post last week about it- think it was called outer sway bat bushing. Yes, I misspelled the post name Last edited by thekidd; 06-05-2011 at 09:44 AM.. |

Grease on parts you don't want moving is not good, soapy water to install them is.
