ICV Question

Can the Idle Control Valve cause an engine to die immediately after start up?

yes, it did on my 968. Would start up and I could keep it going if I kept my foot on the throttle. Once I took my foot off, car would die. it would also have problems starting some times.

redranger - can you please explain the starting problems you had when you IAC failed? Did you have to crank it several times?

Thanks, Andrew

i would turn the key, it would sputter, almost as if it were out of fuel. After a few tries and some holding in of the throttle, it would start. As soon as I took my foot off the throttle, it would die.

Yeah, mine will do the same thing, minus holding the foot on the throttle. Even if i do that, my car seems to die faster. I checked my throttle switch (clarks-garage) and it seems that it isn't acting right. But i gotta check my ICV while my intake and oil filler is off. I did find a few cracked vacuum lines under my manifold, so hopefully replacing those lines will help my problem. Also, where can I get AOS seals for a '83 944. I know pelican doesn't sell them anymore.

One more bit of info I neglected to add is that my check engine light would come on when trying to start the car and keep it running. Hooked up the code reader and it gave an ICV fault code.

ahhh, how lucky you are. I think because of the age of my car I can't place a code reader in to receive information like that. I just cleaned mine with carb cleaner, maybe that will do the trick.
