944S Cooling system leaks
I need to tap into the collective knowledge of you guys who have experience with the twin cam 944 engines. I developed a small coolant leak this evening on the way home 3miles out.
Upon examination the culprit appears to be a fitting on the rear of the cylinder head. Standing in front facing the car the fitting is on the right rear of the head underneath the intake manifold and under and to the rear of the oil filler cap. The fitting has a aluminum connector pipe pointing to the rear for a black rubber coolant hose approx. 1/2 - 3/4 inch i.d. This hose loops around the rear of the engine and connects to a metal tubing which runs forward toward the radiator along the left side of the head and above the exhaust manifold. My guess is that this is a source of coolant to the head?? The connector pipe or pipe nipple on the faulty fitting appears to be a simple interference fit and is quite loose and came out in my hands. That appears to be the source of the leaking coolant. Fortunately I only lost about a pint of coolant so the engine never overheated. Now... 1. What is this leaking fitting called? Is it pressurized? 2. What is the best way to repair it? (it is too loose to simply hammer it back in). Would JB Weld work? or other substance like epoxy? 3. Does Haynes make a twin cam manual? as my SOHC manual is useless on engine issues. |

Although I'm very new to these cars or any cars that is. Ther is no Haynes manual for our "S" cars. Ask ribs about his factory manuals, he can get it for you for free. they cover our engines.

My car's engine has a suspect pipe('84). I've heard of guys using JB weld but....The catalogues I subscribe to show hardware and hoses but no fittings. For this kind of item I'd go new instead of junkyard stuff. Time to make friends with your local dealer?
I bought a pair of injectors from them for just a little more than mail order and shipping. Believe me, you do'nt want the hassle where I live. Aloha, Neal |

Cooling System Leak
I plan to get a new one ASAP, but the trouble is I do not know what to tell the dealer that I need and he is a 3 hour drive away so it is going to be a while before I can just pop in and look through the parts microfiche with him to i.d. the part.
Any JB weld or other repairs are temporary until I can make the trip to Columbus. |

This is a fairly common problem, the outlet pipe has come out of the casting.
You need the casting 928 104 713 02 gasket 928 106 167 01 The casting is an updated part.
