A lucky break
Just thought I'd share this.
Yesterday I was working on my car. One of the jobs on the 'to do' list was changing the power steering hose between the pump and the rack (the high pressure one). The steering's been making this really annoying and loud noise that's very difficult to describe but sounds a bit like a ghost sound effect. I'd narrowed it down to a leak in this hose - when you turned the wheel you could see it streaming out. Anyway, all went well until it got to torqueing the banjo bolts. The big one was fine, but I've obviously not completely kicked my habit of swinging on bolts like a gorilla with a wrench. I managed to sheer off the bolt. Much swearing followed. Luckily, the gods were giving me a break and I was able to back the broken portion out using the head end. I was very glad I could do that, as I wasn't relishing the prospect of removing the rack to get the broken portion of bolt out. As I was using the hose from my parts car I had a spare banjo bolt. I consider myself lucky to have got out of that situation - especially since I just got finished in time to drive to my mum's house to take her out for a Birthday dinner.
