DIY tow bar
Hi folks,
I want to fit a tow bar to my 944, and I have spotted the post about "build your own trailer hitch" from 4 years ago. I couldn't help noticing there was a lot of anti tow bar feeling; but in my defense I want to put three bicycles on the tow ball, not a caravan. No, I don't want them on the roof. I have the bike rack stuff already, and a tiny trailer that holds some camping gear, both of which I can't use with the 944. Yet. Has anyone got any pictures of a fitted towbar on a 944; ideally with mounting info or ideas? cheers Russell

One of the Mods here (Z-man) had a hitch on his S2 ...may want to reach out for him. He told me he used to tow a tire trailer for DE.

I found some wires under the rear of my car that looked just like a trailer light harness plug.
I thought to myself - WTF these didn't come with a trailer hitch option did they? Turns out that the previous owner rigged up a small trailer to haul track tires. He removed the hitch, but left the wire harness. He had a bolt on hitch setup that he could easly remove when not in use (i'm sure it looked funny to see a 944 w/ a trailer hitch)

I have seen a part number for a trailer hitch for a 924. I believe Porsche offered it as an option at one point. Just throwing this out for whatever it is worth.......

For the 944S2, the part number of the towbar is 944 722 901 00 (or 944 722 901 01 if the car has M058 option whatever that is). Its quite a complicated looking piece so unless you are good at metal fabrication it may be better to cost this item and then weigh up the effort to make one from scratch versus just buying one that will fit perfectly...

Here's the link to the "build your own 944 trailer hitch" that was referenced earlier in the post.
