Sway Bar Options
I am looking at upgrading my sway bars that are on my 86 with Option M456.
I have ruled out the weltmeister for now due to budget, but want to upgrade from the 23.5mm front and 14mm rear that are on there now. I have decided to go with the 5 way adjustable 19mm rear from Lindsey racing, but I am not sure what to do with the front to go with the 19mm rear. Also, I am switching to steel a-arms and wondering if I need anything else when switching to a larger front sway bar? Are the retaining clips the same size? and will they fit in the steel a-arms with no issue? Thanks! |
i'd grab a set of stock 968 sway bars - 26.8mm front and 16mm rear - you should be able to get them both for under $100

The 19mm rear bars fit well with the 26.8 front sways as found on the 88 turbo S and 89 Turbos.
It's been quite awhile since I've worked on the early bars but I think the mounting hardware is different between the steel arms and the later aluminum ones |
I have the 26.8 front and the Lindsey 19mm with solid mounts and adjustable drop link. The set up works well and the car is very balanced. I also have Bilstein sports all around, #350 Ground Control coil overs on front and 28mm torsion bars rear. I really like the set up.

Cocacolakidd is right. With the steel A-arms on the front you need 2 stabilizer brackets, 944.343.735.00 (left) and 944.343.736.00 (right). Then you are good to go.

You could always upgrade to a 16 or 18mm rear without the $$ big expense. Tighten your rear a little.... I have a 968 16mm Rear setup with Grease-able Poly body bushings & Endlinks for a good price. PM Me if your interested & Please visit my garage... Later... |
Once I get past my rear main seal, clutch job, I am installing the Lindsey bar with the 26.8 bar in front. I have new Konis for the rear but will not have the larger torsion bars or the GC/Koni coilover and 350# springs for the front yet. Hopefully it will not be too unbalanced for my track session this weekend (if I make it in time ! )
