Power windows.

I've been working on the car quite a bit over the last few months. I know 2 months or so ago the passenger side window was working as it should be. Fast forward to last weekend and i tried to roll down the window. Nothing, different switches still nothing. I checked for power at the switch and i have none. I chased wires to the little access cover in the passenger side foot-well and i have no power there either. Ground is confirmed good. But i have no power to either wires. My drivers side window works flawlessly. So I am a bit puzzled as to why this is happening, and what has changed all of the sudden to create these symptoms.

Any insight would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance guys!

I got the window to go up and down... BUT i can only do it if both switches are powering the window up or down.

The drivers side passenger window switch has to be pushed down, as well as the passenger side window switch to roll the window down, you have to push both switches to the up position to get it to roll up...

Is there some kind of child safety switch somewhere or something similiar that could have been tripped? This seems very odd...

Have you swapped the drivers switch? I will need to look at the diagram but it seems to me that the drivers switch is in the circuit and interrupting. This would make since so that the drivers switch would override the pass. Again im speculating but if the drivers switch hasan extra pin then that would confirm. Ill check the diagram later.

Just take them apart and clean up the contacts.... No need for new ones if you are handy.

Agreed. I never trash the pieces and grab every one I see at the pull and pay. The parts inside almost never fail.

Pull apart
Don't lose little balls or springs.
Sand copper where it contacts. (Dirty parts)
Coat with a little dielectric grease
replace copper making sure they are opposite
lay switch top down.
Set balls in springs.
Hold switch upside down. The grease and tension will hold the copper while you put it back together.

Good as new.

i worked with the switches i have for 2 hours and could not get them to work. It seems straight forward enough. But i was really getting frustrated, and the fact that its so simple was making it even worse. I dont know why it wouldn't work.

I cleaned all the contacts, cleaned all the junk out. But i couldn't get the switches to make proper contact.

I may give it another go tomorrow, but i've spent so much time messing with those blasted switches. Im to the point that 30 a switch seems worth it for the sake of my sanity. I may work on one to see if i can get the driverside window working again.

Reconditioning Switches

For an excellent walk through of taking apart the switches and putting them back together go to Clark's Garage Home Page and in the "Garage Shop Manual" section click "W" for windows. You should find "Troubleshooting and Switch Repair" (aka: ELECT-20). Scroll down to the end of the article for lots of pictures of taking apart the switches. I have to do this every few years as these switches seem to stop working from arcing on the contacts. It is easy to clean them up; you may also need to gently "rearch" the metal pieces by gently bending them back to a normal arch. I wish some knowledgable person would design and post a 'snubber circuit' to prevent the arcing which burns these contacts. Good luck and have fun.

Champagne Illuminated Window Switch Panel Installation 1

Been done for the 928. This setup adds lights and auto up and down. Send Paul an email and see if he has any plans of doing a 944 setup. With enough demand........
