Balance shaft sprocket alignment

Last year my son pulled apart our S2 to do a waterpump but stopped when he found out how much the parts were... Ive picked up all the parts I need pump, rollers, blah... and now Im trying to put her back together. Keep in mind, I didnt take it apart...

So Im looking at the balance shafts. My question is, how do the sprockets go on to the shaft? There are two keyways in the sprocket. It looks like to me that the shaft key should be in the keyway that in marked with a 0 above it. What do you guys think?

Here are 3 pics of the shafts & sprocket...

the key on the upper balance shaft should line up with the "O" keyway on the pulley

the key on the lower balance shaft should line up with the "U" (if there is a mark) or the not-"O" keyway on the pulley

way i remember. O=over/upper U=under/lower

Remember to tension the BB tension roller in the clockwise rotation.

Or, in German, O= ober, U= unter (and the way to remember what unter means, U-boats were under the sea.)

Hello,

only older version had the "U" on the lower sprocket. For the S2 you should find an O on both sprockets. The sprocket for the upper shaft is in right position, when you see the O in the larger hole of the collar. The sprocket for the lower shaft is in right position when you see the O in the small slit of the collar.

Best regards,

Jürgen
