Sticky Side to Side Shifting
Hello all,
I have been working on replacing various parts on my 944 and one of my problems is a sticking shifter when moving right to left. I have read that it is a rusty linkage, but are people talking about the linkage in the shifter, or on the trans? Thanks! Any additional advice is always helpful. |
Side to side motion is usually internal to the transmission if it's sticking. How is your shifter, is it sloppy? 100% of the 944's out there (whos owners havent replaced the shifter) have badly worn pins.

Shifter doesnt seem sloppy, just need two hands to get from 1-2 to 3-4. Going down is still pretty easy. I did replace the fluid with Swepco 201 a couple of years ago but there seems to be some seepage around the plug. Perhaps I didnt torque the plugs down enough and the fluid has gone low.

I'd had my parts car sitting for a long time before I took its LSD 951 tranny out and put it in my '85. The shift linkage was extra hard to move side to side just like you described. A good spray of WD40, and a few weeks of use, and it felt great.
