Loose wheel movement

Was not sure what to call this post.. But here was what I am having happen.

When driving the steering is loose and by that I mean sloppy. Not tight at all. Was thinking maybe the Tie rod, because I did put new tie rod ends, control arms, bushings and all.

Not sure what else other than the rack, but no leaks really did not feel this until I replaced all the above parts. This driving me nuts.

I was thinking the same thing. Wheel bearings. My 83 NA exhibits the same sort of behavior at about 55-65 mph the steering wheel has a low frequency shake. Above 65 it goes away. As soon as the rain lets up I'm going to try ajusting the front bearings.

It could be tie rods or the intermediate shaft that connects the steering wheel to the rack could be worn.

The steering on my 83 with manual rack also seems loose. I took the rack out and had it gone through by a local shop. He said it seemed pretty good. I've also changed inner and outer rod ends. And I did the wheel bearings. It's better but still not as good as I would like.

I suspect there is some wear in the U-joint @ the intermediate shaft as mentioned by RedBaron. Someone needs to come up with a fix for this.
