951 won't start below 30 degrees F
 

Its summer and i want to fix car b4 winter. I changed out DME and check valve last winter to no avail.. Any ideas.

anybody know the problem? thnxs

Are you really serious about trying to start a 944/951 (or any cars for that matter)without a bloc heater sitting outside in -30F weather,up here where we see that kind of cold more often that we want if the temp drop -20/25F you can be sure that both my DD are plugged.Also I can't understand why your trying to get your car ready for winter (which every Porsche owners hate)and not enjoying it during the Summer season,kind of weird if you ask me but not judging you just lot of:confused:going through my mind.GL solving your problem.

It could be simple that your battery does not have enough cold cranking amps. Use a lighter weight oil and get a dip stick heater. I had a friend in Germany that put an electric blanket over his engine every night. We ribbed the tar out of him. I had a VW that never failed to start, but I used a lighter weight oil in the winter months.

That's okay, I neither start nor run very well when it's below 30 degrees either.

Actually come to think of it, I don't really work very well below about 60 degrees...

Check your primary electrics - 951s should be relatively easy to start in cold weather due to the low compression.

If you get stumped I might be able to help you out (I'm in southern NH).

does it crank and just not start? if so, it could be your water temp sensor or it's wiring.

Hi i originally posted. The temperature was 30 degrees above zero...not below.....Anyways....its not a battery problem or lightweight oil issue......its seems to be not getting enough gas...maybe....i swapped a used fuel pump and changed check valve....just a shot in the dark....but it didn't work....car is definatley effected by cold and has been the last couple winters......

Did you ever find the cause?

If you changed to a 3 Bar fuel pressure regulater, try swapping in the old 2.5 Bar regulater. Check your fuel line pressure if you still have the 2.5 bar regulater. Check the DME temp sender unit, values are in the DME test plan.
