What do I have here?
I was going through some old stuff today and found some Porsche parts I bought years ago, and I cannot for the life of me figure out why I bought them. I have a gasket set PN: 000 043 065 00.
Research shows it is an ENGINE TIMING COVER DUST SEAL SET. I am replacing my timing & balance shaft belt and rollers this weekend. Is this something I should have? Thanks, GHEN

Does it look like this?
Pelican Parts - Product Information: 10-0507-098-M260 Not needed for belts or rollers. Needed for a FOES (front of engine seal with races). Need to remove rear belt cover and front crank bolt to do the job. GL John

When you pull the belt covers off, if you have a pool of oil and crud under the front crank shaft pully-, located on top of the inside/back belt cover ------you should replace the front crank seal and "O" ring. This leak will spray on your cam belt and may cause more damage.
You can make the job easier with a "flywheel lock" ~$50 to remove the front crank bolt (torqued at 150#s) Next, if you have oil dripping down the front of the engine from the balance shafts----a good idea to do the complete FOES. I do not replace the cam gear seal unless it is very obviously leaking. Here is the DIY for all... Front Engine Seals Yes, more complicated and more time, but nice to get it done. GL John
