Water pump install studs
I took over a 1987 944S rebuild project and I test fitted my rebuilt water pump and noticed that one of the studs was too short to pass through the housing:

One other question - should i add the steering pump and AC compressor before or after installing the motor? Any help greatly appreciated! Cheers, G |

Waterpump Q.
Its been a few years and I cannot recall exactly... The WP bolt kit comes with 10 replacement bolts for our cars. ![]() My guess is that one of the bolts broke off in the block on your donor engine and was never drilled out and replaced. Just a note from Bruce Arnn quote "One note concerning the water pump - one of the nightmares that can occur when changing a water pump is breaking of one of the small mounting studs or bolts. These are often weakened by corrosion. Apply heat to soften the thread locker and remove them carefully. Replace them with only grade 8 (or better) cadmium or zinc coated studs. Many vendors (and hardware stores) sell metric studs, very few sell the correctly hardened and treated ones. I'm still trying to find a source for these, so far, these are a dealer-only item.
