cruise control

is the cruise control always turned on - on the 84 i see no way to turn it on and i see no indicator light to say it's on - also in the owners manual it does not list a fuse for the cruise - i assume there is one - just don't know where it is - so i really don't know if it's even getting power and is turned on - the cruise doesn't work - i cleaned the servo - haven't pulled the control unit yet - by the way where is that located - anyway thanks

not sure on your early car..later car it's a metal box under the dash driver side above hatch release..make sure it's plugged in..2 connectors to it 2 nuts attach to body you'll need and extension and 10mm socket...these usually are the culprit of non functioning CC..try and find a good used one on ebay or another member..don't open it and see if you can fix it because you can't--some people have said you can look for a loose solder on the board but unless your an electronics genius forget it...over time the electronic box goes bad..I've gone thru like 5 already..and yes it's always on...and it's usually not the control on the stalk that's bad but who knows...happy Cc fixing...

found the control box - center console under the heater box - opened the box up ( i couldn't help myself) - saw there was nothing i could do - swapped it out with another one - it seems to work fine - i saw on another post you could clutch while it was engaged and it would disconnect - not sure about that as the engine revved up to about 6 grand before i caught it - certainly don't want a blown engine just to have cruise - anyway right now it works ok - thanks

When you push in the clutch, cruise should disengage, then reengage when you release clutch pedal.
Yep..I found that my switch that is on the clutch pedal was bad when I was going up a mountain with cruise on and pushed in clutch, ZIIIING!
Check the clutch pedal switch, make sure it is connected, and if it is' make sure it works, I think they are 10-12 bucks.

Another one of those things I had to find on a supposed 9 of 10 car as rated by the P.O.
