Fair price for a 1 owner 924s?

I just bought a 1987 924s. Everything works. 105,000 actual miles, Extensive records over $5000 spent in the last 3 years alone. Origional paint without even a scratch. Automatic transmission replaced at 92,000. for $4500.00.

I thought it was fair. What do you guys think?

Question

I don't know... A little over one year ago I purchased my '88 924S, packed to the gills with options. One owner, stored for 3+ years with only 82,500 on the clock. I paid $4250.00 for it.

Since then I have replaced almost everything that's rubber... all belts, hoses, vacuum lines, rear harch seal. A lot of stuff. Even a new radiator, fan switch and thermostat. Totaling almost another 3 grand.

If it doesn't need much work, great! But with that many miles, on that old of a vehicle, be prepared to shell out some more dough.

Don't get me wrong, you'll love the car, and if you treat it right it'll like you too.
I love my car and will definately have another p-car in the near future.

Unless you really want the car and or can not drive a 5 speed do not purchase it. Don't mean to be a bummer, but auto cars are very difficult to sell. Remember some day you will want to sell this car and it will be your problem.

Duane, Congrats on the purchase. The auto would not be my choice but it could make a good daily driver as long as you don't have to put a lot of $ into it. Sounds like the PO took care of some of this for you!

BTW, what type of Piper do you fly. I am just starting on my license and am looking to buy a low time 140. I was going to get a 150/2 but thought a 4 place would be much better.

Pipers?
I can't help but reply:

1st: I think that having the manual is one of the greatest parts of owning my porsche... control the driving experience.

2nd: I got my private in a PA/28 180 (she was "97xray") and now fly a 160. I love the 180s, far better machine than the 141. Just my two cents - where are you guys flying?

Jake, I have a 1973 Cherokee 140 w/150HP conversion. It has 3200 hours and 1200 on the engine. It could use some paint, but aluminum won't rust. Good luck in your endevor. I love to fly. I'd go today, but the wind's a little brisk for me to play in. Also, Always remember that get-there-itus does'nt always get you there.

I live in SW FL. I don't have any logged hours yet, but plan on buying a "trainer" anyway, -am I crazy? A friend of mine, (who has a MIG17), has offered to help train me. Although I went through flight school several years ago I am just now getting started, again! Can you offer some insight on the 140, like maintenance and costs. How does carrying 4 work for you?

Thanks!
Jeff

I wouldn't try to carry 4 in a 140! For starters, there aren't typically four seats in a 140. The 160 is a slightly longer fuselage with the tapered wings but is just a little lacking in power.
Good luck.

97Xray-

I kind of bought the automatic so my wife can drive it too. My 914 track car is my toy porsche. It eats up most stock 944s on the track.

I am based at SPA .

jeff944-

Maintainence is ok. In three years I've spent $3000 including annuals. As far as four! HA! Kids maybee. I have a 625LB useful load with the tanks filled to the tabs. With my family of four, I can only carry 165Lbs of luggage.

As far as carrying four men of 200 Lbs. look at the 180. or my dream plane the Cherokee 6/300. Well maybe some day.
