If the car is cosmetically in as good of shape as he says that may not be far off the mark. 89's are rarer as they were the last of the NA 8v cars. If the head is ok, and the valves just need replacement, that is worth up to $1k by itself.

Not even ****ing close. The head is trashed note he mentioned the TB broke and that could mean a lot more than bent valves. Stay away.

ASS-U-ME that it's JUST the headgasket and bent valves. things to do:

1) 8 valves, guides, seals
2) magnaflux the head and check seal. deck it.

it'd be worth it...but as a non running car, as a buyer, u have ALOT of bargaining power as you are taking on ALOT of risk. who knows what ELSE might be wrong since u can't start it up and test drive it

Reread the ad. He's trying to say this is a $12k car with the heads fixed. I wouldn't even consider it. This person is wwhy Porsche and 944 owners get a bad name.

Rarity =/= value. This car really has nothing special about it and is worth asking price in RUNNING condition. Not even close as it sits.

I just bought a 1987 944 with 85,000 miles in great running condition, P/W, working cruise control and alarm for $3900.

I immediately did a timing belt and water pump change, and my car is cosmetically in very good shape. They must have some great weed in Dayton.

"When repaired, the value of this car is $12,000 - $15.000" I would like to know where he got these number? maybe when the belt broke he bumped his head.

That car will be for sale for a loooong time.

Until the seller gets a dose of reality, the car is going nowhere.

Honestly I would give him about $900 for it.

Shame, nice car but you don't know what is wrong with it. If he let the timing belt go, what else did he ignore?

I'd have him pull the head for inspection,...But I would pay 3K if the damage was limited and no rust and very clean..you will drop a grand ,..if you do the work yourself..otherwise a shop will get u for 2-4 K

It seemed like a great story...... then I got to the end. Now I realize it was a comedy. Or is that a tragedy?

Let's call it a tragic comedy. 5k? Ill be laughing about that all week. This is a legal state and our weed just isn't that good. Out here we would call that smoking crack. I think you have a consensus.
