1984 944 Over Heating Issues

So today on the the way back from San Fransisco my 944 overheated. I pulled off to the side of the road as soon as possible and looked at the problem. As soon as i opened the hood, water was spraying out of the front water hose that connects to the radiator . There was a cut in the hose and water was coming out of it. I also heard a noise like bb's in a tin can as i was pulling over. Could this be from the water pump breaking. There was leaking from underneath the car but nothing crazy. Ive had the car towed back home. What are your guys best and worse case outcomes. Maybe just the hose or the actually pump as well. Also does anyone know what could also could be damaged to possible over heating? Thanks you everybody for your help i appreciate it. I'm going to upload a photo tomorrow of the cut and see it i can get the water pump to.

Lots of things can go wrong. Head gasket can blow. Engine damage can occur. Put a new hose on and let it build pressure. You will know soon if there is any more damage. (Less than 5 minutes) bbs in a tin can is just an indication that the engine got pretty hot. Usually a new hose will get you back on the road. Fix then post.

yeah that was my first idea, I'm going to get a new hose and see if that works. After five minutes will it over heat again if it was the pump?

Probably not the pump but if the pump is bad it will leak or yes, it will overheat. But very quickly. Less than 5 minutes.

What makes you think you have a bad pump? They usually break in one of three ways.

Bad seal: leak from bottom of pump.
Bad bushing: very loud noises usually bushing (grindind sound) ir belt squeaking (locked up all together)
or impelled breaks off (no cooling at all)

Put a hose on it before you start to worry unless there is more to the story.
