Early 85 944 gas tank draining and cleaning
HI,
I have an early 85 944 that has been sitting for the past 3 years. I want to get it running (ran when I stopped using it) again so that I can use it. Before I go any further, I want to get all of the old gas out of the tank so that it does not go into the injectors, etc. Is there a way to drain the tank without removing it from the car? If I have to remove it, is there an easy way of doing it or is this major surgery? Thanks, Tim |

Just take off the hose to the fuel pump. One hose clamp does it.
Tip: pinch the hose shut with a pair of vice grips before you disconnect it, and it'll save you getting covered with gas.

Removing the tank is a major excercise involving taking out the transmision, taking off the exhaust, removing the exhaust heat shield. While you are under draining the gas there remove the tank retaining straps and check for rust holes where they touch the tank.
