daily driver muffler
What do you run on your DD 944?? I while back I went to buy something from a private seller and when I was there I looked at his 944 and he had a muffler that sounded kinda nice to me it was a deep throaty sound not a fart muffler. For the life of me I can't remember what he said it was and getting in touch with him is not happening. I have watched a lot of youtube videos but can't seem to find the rite one, unless the sound on the videos are bad.

Generic Super Turbo chambered oval body muffler, which is essentially what the car came with.
Dynomax or Magnaflow make nicer stainless steel versions. Usually sound pretty decent on most of the larger 4-cylinders. Flowmaster is another option for an oval body muffler that can sound good on some vehicles.

Best combination I've found is the Thrush welded muffler for $40 at advance, run with the factory cat. Awesome deep throaty sound that's not too loud for DD. Absolutely no raspy, farty ricer sound, and believe me, this motor likes to make lots of that sort of noise with the wrong system. It also looks pretty stock, especially painted high temp black, so it doesn't attract any unwanted attention. I've gotten lots of compliments for the sound...and then they don't believe it's just the $40 flowmaster knockoff at the auto store. The nice thing is, when it rusts out, it's $40 and an afternoon and I'm good to go again. I've had it for a year and a half and it's still in great shape. Should be good for a few more years.
Here's the exact part. Dynomax 17655 Thrush Welded Mufflers by Thrush Mufflers They do make a stainless version, and some say it sounds a little different, but the 2 chamber style is definitely the choice if you want the deep throaty euro "howl". It sounds amazing at full bore, too. I did make a vid that covered the stages of experimentation, but it doesn't have a clip of the final version that I run now, which sounds the best. The version with the Thrush and the gutted cat is very similar to how it sounds now. only just a bit more raw and raspy, and quite a bit louder. Would have been a good track setup. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y3tRMq0sSBI

I love the sound of my Dansk SS muffler... it is OE replacement and fitment, bolts right on, and looks OEM... Oh and sounds AWESOME!

I think my early model '85 had an oval Borla muffler, I really liked how that car growled from 3-5K.

I had the magnaflow for a few years and as a daily driver muffler it was pretty loud..sounded good but had a loud "droaning" sound when on the highway..I put on a 968 muffler from headers back and it has the nice euro BMW growl too it and sounds good idling with no highway noise..and it basically bolts right on..except for welding to the exhaust headers..
