Pressure plate
Hey guys once again having a problem with my 87 944 heres the deal i have no problems shifting into gear other that 2nd ( pretty sure the Synchro Rings shot) my concern is that in 1st and 2nd gears ive noticed that my car doesnt want to accelerate, engine speed increases but no speed increase. It seems like the clutch takes awhile to grip the flywheel (guess it could be comparable to turbo lag??) would the pressure plate be the culprit? BTW ive replaced the clutch but i reused the pressure plate.

I probably could guess but you may get a better explanation here:

Looks like ill be doing clutch work at some point in the next few weeks. I'm guessing its possible for the fingers on the PP to become wore out so it doesn't pop back like it should? If it is then i know that its the problem.

If you have a leak in the heater control valve, check for a white deposit on the pivot or drips, it will leak on the clutch disc and ruin it.
A leaking RMS could also cause a slipping clutch. Have you checked the clutch thickness per Clarks? Use a deep well socket that just fits between the bell housing and clutch fork to make it easy. Checking Clutch Disc Wear GL John

Valves good and i hope it wouldnt be RMS considering that i just replaced that i also dont see any oil dripping or traces of oil anywhere near the back end. Am i wrong assuming that the fingers of the PP can go bad causing it to not pop back or press the clutch enough to hold power?

Yes that is what clutchnet says.
I put in a used PP in the '87 a couple of years ago with about 60K miles on it. (from my '88) It had minor wear on the diaphram fingers to the TO and needed very little polishing on the mating surface. If yours was a low mileage PP, and the diaphram fingers looked good, I do not see why it could not be used a 2nd time. What type of disc did you use? OEM, Italian (Vertex) Speed force racing??? John

Sachs spring centered 944-116-011-02-M38. I want to say that it was the original PP but i have no way of knowing for sure. The PO gave me a CD with the maintenance records on it not sure if it was the complete history of the car but it didnt say anything about having clutch work done. The clutch i took out was rubber centered so im guessing everything was original.
