Car dies

I was driving down the road and my car just died. It wont restart. It just clicks when turning the ignition like there is a dead battery. The car wont jump start unless I am not leaving the cable on log enough,,,battery cable are clean, fairly new battery...it is a 1998 Saturn .......

Alternator working? change the batt, and when(if) it starts you should read 14+volt at the batt terms if the alt is working. If it will not change enough to start the car it's bad.

Wayne after you start the car check the voltage at the battery terminals. It should be between 13.5 to 14.1 if the battery is drained. GL.
