Early DME in a late car?
I'm chasing a no start issue, at this point, its either the crank sensors, or the DME computer in my '84. I'm curious if I remove my '84 DME and plug it in my '86, and have it "run" the '86. As the AFM doesn't send the same signals, I'm unsure if it would simply run like crud, or not run at all. Anyone know?
I replaced the clutch, and haven't had it start after that. Before checking the DME, I need to get something to gap my sensors, I remove the sensors and not the bracket, so that shouldn't be the issue, but my next step is gap the sensors, if it still doesn't work after that, check the DME. If DME is good, and gap is good, then I've probably got a problem with a bad connection. I had to replace the reference sensor as the connector in the harness appears to have been glued/gooed together by a prior owner, nasty cleaning that one up. So again, main question, is if I plug in the '84 DME into the '86, will the car at least start?

youd have to swap the DME/AFM as a pair between cars. otherwise it will run fine

As said, both the 84 DME and AFM must be used. Your tach will not work with it. You will have to remove the ground to pin 28 or you will run lean like at altitude.
