KLR/DME - possible to repair?

Are DME and KLR possible to repair? My point is if it makes sense to buy used ECUs and keep them as a spare 'just in case' or most of failures are repairable. I would expect the old fashion soldered PCBs to be fairly easy to repair (apart from dedicated chips) compared to modern SMD designs.
What is your experience in this case? Any feedback is welcomed.

That's what I suspected. I went through a lot of posts about bad DME and it looks like people do both - send them for repair or get a good used one. It's like 40% for repair and 60% for swap.
I still wonder if it makes sense to get a spare set of these. I'm looking forward to use my car for another 5 - 10 years (hopefully...) What would you do??? Set of ECUs is not a cheap buy, but might be even more expensive in 5 years time... I dont think that anybody could say that most of the faults are repairable (or not) but maybe there is a DME/KLR guru who can advise on that???

If you can pick up a DME & KLR for a reasonable price, say under $300 for both, it would probably be a good investment.

Repair or usually exchange begins at $350 per set/unit and up.

Pauer Tuning Used Parts
Systems Consulting...Automotive Electronics
Specialized ECU Repair - European Car Engine Computer Repair

There are a few others that will test your unit and have used if needed:
944 Ecology and more.

You could also study the DME and understand common causes for failure and prevent damage to the unit. Some of the easy problems can be fixed.

You could get a small oscilloscope and probes as written in the WSM to test.

Just ideas.
