Power steering question

So driving down the road i heard a couple of noises then the power steering went out. so i got home and got under the car and then saw my power steering pump hanging from under he car. The belt wasnt broken, but the strut was and the mounting bolts( front was sheered off and the rear bolt and sleeve were MIA). assuming everything went south bc the rear bolt came out and bounced merrily down the interstate, would it be ok to jb weld the front bolt back in? would jb weld be strong enough to hold it until i can buy a new pump in a few months, or is there a way to replace the front bolt?

Ed,
I can send you a pump in a couple weeks when i get back home.

My 84 had a Power rack but the whole system was shot so I never had power steering. It wasn't so bad.

I had the same thing happen this summer, except the front bracket on the balance shaft cover snapped off. I spent a VERY long weekend replacing it (and all the while you're in there's). It broke again a couple of weeks later. I replaced it again (not too bad to do this time as I was good at it) and found that the hole in the crank side power steering pulley had wallowed out and was what broke the bracket the second time. I also ended up replacing my harmonic balancer as the vibration had misshaped the woodruf key hole with the crank side pulley. Now everything has worked well for a few weeks. It has been a long summer.

Ederd,

The bolts can fail if the correct spacers are not installed properly.
Here is a good picture of parts needed (944online).

Pelican can get the bolt & spacers or you can possibly machine/improvise. Refer to a PET for part numbers.

You need to be careful or you could ruin the PS mount --Lower balance shaft.

One other thing, there is an upgraded hose and fitting (item 7 in pic) for the reservoir to PS pump. Shorter. Pelican.

Power steering is over rated. Just put a little more shoulder in it.;)

I dunno if I'd agree... Try running 235s on the front... For little 15 inch tires, mebbe 205s or 215s ok. Otherwise...not so much.

225's are fine as long as u max out negative camber. :) only issue comes if u try to parallel park
