944 Radiator Fan question
Does anyone know if the dual radiator fan from the later 944's can be retrofitted onto the early models?
Cheers

yes, six blade fans fit the early housings and are a direct plug and play.
It's a (up-grade) per say.

What about the wiring, are there two plugs on the new fan?

What's the best solution - Split the existing wire or run a new one all the way to the fuse board?

there should already be two plugs for the fans, one comes on with the AC, and the other comes on when the temp sensor trips the relay.
does this car have A/C? to my knowledge all 944's came with a/c, and should have two fans from the factory.

Sorry massive, I didn't explain correctly. There is one plug that contains 2 wires, There are no modifications to do for this upgrade. Of course I am assuming that you have the stock 3 blade fan that came on the early models.

Unfortunately my 944 doesn't have AC, so there's only one plug/wire going to the 3 bladed fan.

It's a good upgrade. I did this change over on my 83.
Note that you have to be carefull of the passenger side fan blades hitting the lower radiator hose. I ended up shimming the fan mount and I also trimmed the fan blades. This was after the fan chewed most of the way through the hose.

massive,
I missed this post earlier. I just saw your other post about the wiring changes to go from 1 fan to 2 fans on your early without factory ac. As I'm sure you've already figured out, the fan wiring is over complex due to the two speed fan (or fans?) and the ac interlock. I would consider powerering your second fan from a separate source of switched power through a new axilary themostat that is set slightly higher than your original fan. Aftermarket electric fans sometimes use an adjustable 'stat so I would look there to find one. Good Luck.
