Anyone recognize this bolt?
Hello fellow watercooled 4 pot nuts,
I was wondering if anyone out there recognizes this bolt with its special collar bushing? (13mm head, 35mm long) ![]() This might sound kind of dumb, but please bear with me. I was probing around my engine compartment examining different things getting ready for a long drive next weekend, and I found this bolt sitting between the front sway bar and the undertray on the passenger side (exhaust/oil cooler side for the folks in the UK). I just did the water pump/belts/rollers/foes/oil cooler seals in July, and have put on about 1500 trouble free miles since. I don't recognize this bolt at all, and I can't find anything with this collar/bushing in the parts book. I don't remember taking anything like this off (nor putting it back on and not tightening it). It got to its resting place since I did my belt job, since I had the front undertray off to do it. I'm thinking it could be a pivot for the alternator tensionner, but everything there looks fine and in place. I'm posting this question because I live in a city and I don't have a place to work on the car. I'm probably going to drive about 10 miles tommorrow morning to go to a self-service garage where I can put the car on a lift and take a look. (I'll be taking a look at my belts also, the main reason for the trip) If anyone recognizese this bolt as an essential and dangerous part, PLEASE let me know so I don't run the risk of breaking down or lunching my motor between here and the rental garage! Thanks alot in advance! |

Never mind, guys, it is the alternator adjuster bolt.
Since I found it on the oil cooler side I didn't look carefully at the alternator, the inner eyelet was hanging down and the belt was loose. It must have just happened as I was getting home, because I never saw the ammeter reading low, and luckily I didn't lose any parts or throw the belt! |
