Hollow spindle: how risky when tracking?

Have an '84 that I'll track for the first time this weekend.

I've read that the early cars have a hollow driver's side spindle for the speedo cable and that most 944 Spec guys replace that with a solid spindle from a later car.

How risky is it to run the hollow spindle on track?

Thank you.

I have never heard of one failing - besides the hole through for the speedo cable is only 3.5mm, not very big.

I'll bet there are many of the original drivers side spindles out there that have been raced for quite awhile.........

Well that is interesting. Was it because of abuse plus design or just design ?

It may be that they are safe enough to track the car with Under normal track conditions, otherwise wouldn't most tracks ban their use ?? I have never heard of a spindle breaking like that , especially to have even seen it. I have seen many that have wiped the whole front corner out and broke spindles, but that takes allot of brute force.

Somebody here I thought posted a pic of a busted one on a race car. . .can't seem to find it now, though.

They snap. Seen way too many break. Get solid spindles if you are tracking the car.
