CV Axle for Automatic

Can anyone advise if the CV axle assembly for an 85.5 automatic are the same part as the CV for the 5 speed? I have not been able to find a part listing specifically for the automatic CV axle assembly.

Situation is my 85.5 automatic is starting to clack. If I can't find the replacement CV axle, I was considering reversing the 2 axles and adding some new grease. Since this is such a messy job I doubt I will find any shop willing to do it. Can I just add grease if the boots are not cracked when I reverse them, or do I have to disassemble and clean the joints before re-greasing?

Thanks!

Individual A/T axle shafts are different lengths and different again to M/T shafts. AFAIK CVs are the same.

Sure you`ll find a shop willing to do the work if you`re willing to pay their hourly rate. Just a boy`s job and an easy DIY task, even for a novice.

Try flipping EACH shaft end for end. No need to dismantle to clean, after pulling back the boots, clean out old grease with rags, wash clean in gas & blow out with air before repacking with new grease of appropriate grade. Procedure should be detailed in the manual or Clark`s Garage.

Since they are different length I will flip the clacking one and try it out. Thanks! Will let you know how this works out!

Thanks Stuttgart!
