1986 Product Knowledge Workbook
I found a 944, 944 turbo 1986 Product Knowledge Workbook at a Porsche swap meet today. Has anyone seen this book? It appears it was written for the dealerships to help sell the cars. It's a really fun book, and has quizzes after each chapter. At the end of the book it has a final test. The one I picked up was $3 and never used, I think it counts as a score.
It explains aerodynamics and aesthetics, why the 944 uses analogue instruments, why Porsche doesn't use red/orange instrumentation, even has quotes from Professor Porsche "It was never my philosophy to ask where the engine should be placed, but which solution would bring the greatest gains". If you guys ever run across one, I would suggest to jump on it, it's full of great information.

I saw you down there looking at the book as I was leaving. I was there with my wife and 4 of my kids. Good deal. And I would have stopped and checked it out but it looked like you were going to buy it. Nice find. He has tons of good stuff for sale.
Had no idea you were a forum member or I would have said something. By the way. You are correct. It was a sales tool. You will find these at any car dealership for the respective models.

I've been selling cars for a few years now and we have these sales tools as well, and they are full of great info that never make it to the brochures or general public.
But I've never seen one for the 944 turbo and I doubt I'll ever see one in the flesh. But I'd love to know what it says inside especially about the details you mentioned. Would you be willing to snap some photos of the pages?

Im not sure who he is. I am going to grab a few things that the host has. I get the impression he is leaving the trade. I think he's got to be 70 something.

I thought you were talking about that buffalo bob guy. Jack is the owner of German Motorcraft. He's not getting out, he just not taking on the volume he use to. Right now he's focusing more on his/others race cars. Jack is great guy, and if you ever need parts call him, he'll give you great prices on new oem parts. When you go Monday ask if he'll show you around, he's full of information!

Looking forward to taking up some of his time. He has some things I need and his quoted prices were awesome. He's got a used clutch for my 928 (you can't buy new ones anymore for less than 1300 smakaroos) which I need since pelican and no one else can get the factory ones anymore. Plus some other things. Do you go to any pcs events or anything locally? Always fun to shake the hand of a fellow forum member.

No, I have been so busy and everytime I get to a stopping point I buy another car. I have pledged to get more involved. I guess I just need a little motivation.

Most Porsche literature has a part number printed inside somewhere...inside fr/rr cover perhaps.
Go to your dealer and have them run the number for availability. If it's an old dealer, they may have a stack of old literature they will let go of. The factory floods dealer techs/salespeople with this kind of stuff. I've thrown garbagebags of this stuff away sadly. The tech spec/tuning/diagnostic manuals are VERY helpful and informative and sometimes superscede the FWM in diagnostics and technical content. The OP's book appears to be intended for sales people. |
