gorilla needed: can't get the crank pulley off

I'm trying to remove the crankshaft pully bolt. I've locked the flywheel, pulled the fans, hit it with thread blaster, heated it with propane torch and pulled the breaker bar until my lower back finally popped...Damn! I even put the breaker bar handle in the cup of my floor jack to push it and watched the breaker bar bend and the engine started to move up as well. There isn't room to use impact driver in there without pulling the radiator and that creates a whole other host of headaches. This thing turns counter clock-wise to come off, right?? Anyone have any other ideas that won't involve hospitalization?

A 5 ft breaker bar is my best friend.

They can be tough. Yes, it's lefty loosey. I use 3 ft breaker bar and a 3-4 ft pipe slipped over it.
Leverage is your friend, take it easy on the back.

it WILL come off, I forget the, tq 150-160 ft-lbs I think

Your best bet is to use a 3/4 inch bar and socket.

I used my spare kart axle slipped over breaker bar and learned to curse in German..........

It's not that hard guys. I used a 2 ft breaker bar, it's a pain in the arse, but very doable.

Invested 10 bucks in a 5' piece of steel pipe to make my breaker bar longer. When it first popped, I took the breaker bar(1/2") out and checked to see if it had broken. It hadn't so I soldiered on. After about another 45 degrees of movement it all came together. Everything else slipped of easily except the oil sleeve. Then the light went on: O ring. It came out in pieces because it was hard. Now all is well. Only thing I'm wondering: is the green O ring supposed to be lubed as well? If so will motor oil be ok or something else?

as a general rule all o rings should be lightly coated with oil to help them seal.

It's all coming together smoothely now. Nothing jammed, only lost one washer. not a critical one. I can't wait to put all of it back together and start it up. I'm hoping that research and doing it right there won't be any issues. Gonna leave the covers off to see if the balance belt tension is ok. That's the one that always seems to be the one that has to be re-tensioned because of whining. I'll use the 180 twist and see where it goes from there. I'm keeping the pipe as a special tool. Just can't figure how to get it in my tool box.

5 pieces of 12" pipe threaded on each end + 4 couplings will allow the new tool to fit in the tool box - LOL - plus with the use of the couplings and short pieces of pipe will allow various lengths of a breaker to be assembled/used - ROFL

If there are any that worry about putting a Petroleum based oil/grease on rubber fittings try Corn Oil/Vegetable Oil - will not effect the rubber and lubricates as well.

I have used various poly bushings in Porsches for many years and have found that the rubber and poly parts do not like the petroleum lubricants. Various manufacturers of poly bushings suggest the use of a food grade lubricant instead of petroleum based. A food grade lubricant/grease is available to the Restaurant and Food Industry to lubricate their slicers and dicers, mixers, etc. It comes in a tube to be used in a grease gun like petroleum grease. It is more expensive, but worth it in the end.

Everythings back in place except for the front covers. Belts, idlers (very noisy), tensioner and Front crank seal, all done. I'm going to run it for a while to make sure the front main seal installation was successful. Engine started right up, no balance belt whining. All things being good I'm off to my next project: oil pan gasket R&R.

Here's a trick that's not for the faint of heart: Block your wrench on the floor of your shop and make sure it's seated properly on the crank bolt. The wrench goes on the LEFT side of the crank. Hop in the car and hit the starter. I do NOT recommend this for everyone, but I know it works...
