Racing

Anybody want to share some insight on club racing for 944?

I'm thinking about doing some club racing in the near future and I just wanted to ask if people had some good/bad experience with the various classes and sanctioning bodies. 944cup seems like a pretty user-friendly race series...

I have an 87 944 that is more or less track prepped. It would probably need an updated cage, harnesses, and possibly seat.

Any input would be kindly appreciated. No need to tell me it's expensive or that it's a money pit, I already know this.

Nice number, I had 420-FVD for a license plate once.

Don't want to be a hater, but I would not race a 944 or any Porsche for the matter.

Racing is damn expensive at all levels why exasperate it with an expensive car.

Find a car thats readily available with a huge aftermarket. I will not invite any controversy suggesting any other models, but most German cars do not fit the bill.

e30's are cheap and reliable.

944's are fun...when they're running.

Spec 944 is dirt cheap. Bone stock motor with cheap and plentiful spares, $1000 "spec" suspension, great to drive and easy to work on. Pro3 I think is similar, although I don't know what their allowable mods are.

Fofo, I may be instructing Saturday if I don't go to ORP. PM me if you need more information about the school.

I dunno, but as a kid (mid 1970s)I raced 1/4 mile with a SBC Chevy Deuce and it was quite expensive. Tires, trannys, engines...damn...did I mention tickets?

My car in the pic above was $900 running. It got a valve job, rod bearings, and FOES, then podiumed its first event.

And Fofo, we have a great and growing group of guys, and more tracks than you can shake a stick at (PIR, Pacific, ORP, Mission, Spokane, The Ridge).

I'm not arguing here just trying to make a point. Lets say you are in a points race and the second to last race you blow an engine. The last double points race is a week away. Who would have the best chace of making that race, a 944 or say a Ford or Chevy? I'm not advocating Ford or Chevy.... its that they are hands down the cheapest cars to maintain in regards to aftermarket parts, cost and availability.

Depends on who has more spares on hand. . .and my buddies and I have quite a few 2.5s laying around. And like I said, motors are BONE STOCK, not some high strung race motor. 2.5s, properly maintained, don't seem to "blow up" (knocks on wood).

My whole point is I race because I like to race, the car is simply a tool. I want a competitive car at the most reasonable cost. If you want to run a 944 because you you want to run a 944 that is a little different, but my experince has been mixed to bad in this regards. ( that is wanting to run a specific car, I have no experience racing a 944)

Rasta, I have work on Saturday till 5pm, I imagine you will be off the track by then...

If anything, I am going to be at PIR this Sunday and talk to a few of the 44ers out there.

Anybody have any experience with Pro3?

weird... Northwest Chapter | 44 Cup Racing Series states that there's a race on october 1 & 2 and the PIR schedule definitely has nothing scheduled for Sunday... Maybe the 944-cup schedule is for 2010?
