Converting 924S track car to E85
 
I'm looking to convert my 924S to run E85.

I figure I need to get the following:

higher pressure fuel pump
higher pressure fuel regulator
larger fuel injectors
possible hose replacements depending on material.

anyone have recommendations for fuel injectors.
need to source ~30% more volume. resistance has to be same.
Will turbo injectors work -- are they the same resistance?

I've already found a DME solution.

Turbo injectors are not the same resistance.

You are going to have to go to a stand alone engine management system to make that work.

The fuel pump should be ok. Depending on the application you may have to upgrade things but I would get it running and install a fuel pressure gauge first.

Turbo injectors are not the correct impedance. Newer, better injectors of larger size are readily available.

You don't need to mess with the fuel pump. Changing to a 3BAR FPR will suffice.

Hoses should be replaced anyways but more due to sheer age of them. New fuel hoses are designed to deal with alcohol fuels but you can specify to the hose guys you intend to use E85 and they can find an even better hose for you. I replaced all the rubber in my fuel system from tank to rail and back for the same purpose, I think I paid $40 out the door.

DME will work, but you will have to change the fueling to add more across the board at WOT...easy to do.

Best to check that you are able to source a consistent supply of E85 before heading down this path. Theoretically it will be better in Texas, but E85 varies from around E50 or so upwards, depending on season/ temperature, supplier, availability, price, and whatever. Obviously different ratios of ethanol will affect your tune.

An aftermarket programmable ECU with flex fuel capability will compensate accordingly but a stock/ rechipped/ modded DME will only be able to be optimized for a consistent fuel, and not easily at that. Ignition timing can be advanced accordingly but as well as the increased fuel density the AFR & O2 feedback, etc will change creating tuning issues.

Thanks all!

I'm already pot committed - we got sponsorship to convert
and run our Chumpscar on E85.

We are planning to just rechip the DME, change fuel lines, FPR and injectors,
then hope for the best :-)

I don't know how good our E85 supply here -- there are only a few places to purchase it from.
