Older ecu

Change ecu and afm and contact Mr Wilks for the best chip, not a big increase in power but better response.

and this.

LR's chip's are MAXHP chips sold under the LR umbrella, hence the 'MAX' in the LR part number.

I'm using the 944MAX R chip and if you're looking for big hp you will still be disappointed, i'd be happy if it was even 4-5hp peak. for me it wasn't the point of this chip. it made my car run a lot smoother, revvier and more responsive. The effect on city driving, open road and on the track was a night and day difference. it is much more driveable than stock, like the power the engine always had was more accessible when i needed it.
My results may differ to yours because your car is hamstrung by being an early US spec 944. I have no cat and higher compression.

Note even LR's site (tbh, not sure how you missed this) says:
Fits Models:
944 '85/2 thru '88

If you go ahead with this, try and get a DME and AFM from an '88 944 as it will give you better options to do a MAF conversion down the road if you wanted to. An '86 or '87 DME will still work though.

Lucky!

Changing to a late DME will have other benefits too. For one it will get rid of that early NA "shudder"
