Broken CV joint bolts (all 6)

Well, as the title says I have have EVERY cv joint bolt broken on my outer passenger side of my 84 944 I have nubs of all 6 bolts, but the other part is still stuck in the cv part. How would I go about getting the bits out? I ordered all 24 bolts the other day from pelican. But the story is:
I had my in car in for inspection, but asked for the shop to put in my rear wheel bearings because I didn't have a bearing puller. A few months later (55 days or so, had a few issues as soon as I got it from the shop ( radiator, few hoses, leaking front cam. housing seal- which none was wrong when I brought it in)).... But, had them put in new rear bearings, ( 50 miles after I got it from the shop) tonight, (just getting home from tow) my CV bolts broke on the outer passenger side. The bolts are still stuck in the CV part and don't know the best way of going about it to get them out? Any help from past experience?

Call the shop and explain that due to the mechanic not torquing the passenger side CV bolts correctly, they all snapped off in the axle hub.

Have the shop reimburse you for the tow home when the bolts snapped and for the tow to the shop.

They will deny it was their fault and say the bolts should have been replaced. Also, they have some of the most experienced mechanics in town and they are certain they checked the final torque.

If they are still in the body of the CV joint, I quess they could be pounded out. If there are little pieces snapped off in the axle hub, you could try to use a left hand bolt extractor after you try to drill a hole in the hardened steel bolt tip. Not easy.

The fast way is to weld a nut to each bolt stub. (Back at/to the shop)

The hub may have to be removed.

This is really frustrating.

There were 3 broken bolt bits that I need to drill out, don't know what happened to the other 3 ( way loose I guess). But bout an extraction kit with drill bits on the other end. Worked out great. Took me about 20 mins to get the bits out, I guess 3 hours from start finish, including a quick lunch. Put some Lowes bolts in for time being untill I get all my parts from pelican hopefully on saturday. Thanks

Wheel bearing job FAIL

Hey kid:

First, glad to hear you are OK and that it was just a nuisance breakdown.

You need to talk to the shop and hold them accountable. The job was not done correctly. TO properly torque the CV bolts you need to drive the car and then re torque them or else the loosen later down the road...er...but you know that.

If the mechanic wants to know how to torque the bolts correctly...have him talk to me or refer him to my many posts on this important safety issue. This is a good example of why I never let monkeys touch my car. This happens all the time and it doesn't have to.

When you get the right bolts, torque in a pattern twice with soft locker under the head, not the threads, road test, re torque, then speed stripe and visually inspect on a regular basis. Piece O cake.
