speedo sender not installed right. maybe?

I took off my speedometer sender when I was taking out my transaxle but only the sender and not the part that screws into the transaxle. When I got it all back together I seem to not uave a working speedometer anymore. This is on my S2 with a 5 speed

Did I miss a proper way to reinstall the sender?

I just replaced the odometer gear and noticed that one of the wires to the speedo had its insulation rubbed off in a spot so I wrapped in electric tape and will see if that was the issue when I re-install the cluster.

I am not using the speedo sensor on my trans so if you need one I'd cut you a deal if you 1) know how to remove it and 2) know how I can plug the hole.
