DIY Push Button Start / How to hotwire a 944 - Rennlist Discussion Forums

1 switch on/off, 1 switch positive, neg, load both at pep boys $6 each or less. 12guage wire, blade connectors, 1 30amp inline fuse. Push 2 wires through gromet on firewall behind brake booster. I used a coat hanger came out under dash taped wires to coat hanger and pulled through to engine compartment. Ran those 2 wires under center console to where the switches on console are. I dont use rear wiper switch and had a blank in another. Filed switch holes to fit each switch. Connect positive wire from battery to on/off switch one side, other side goes to positve of next switch. Grounded 2nd switch through center console to fuse panel ground and connected 2nd wire that goes through firewall to the load connector on switch (to starter solenoid) Now the 2 switches are wired on/off switch is safety for the other switch sends power to start switch when turned on. In engine compartment Positive wire to inline 30 amp fuse to positive battery terminal. The last wire route to starter solenoid and put on where ignition wire goes. I removed the origional ignition wire and taped the end. To start car:
Put key in ignition turn 2 clicks. Depress switch 1 to on. Depress switch 2 stater will engage then switch off when car is started. When car is started depress switch 1 to off so you dont hit starter button by accident while driving.
Less than $20 worth of material if you have nothing and works great..
As for the switches need one with 2 prongs and 1 with 3 prongs. 2 prong switch is safety switch, 3 prong plug has postive/negative/load

...or you can buy the starter switch panel from Longacre, which comes with instructions. I have the one with main power, push to start, plus two aux switches for camera and cool suit.
