high voltage issue

I've searched the forum, but haven't found any info that is exactly what my issue is.

Last week i had to put my battery on a charger because the interior light was left on and drained the battery - i didn't disconnect the cables when i hooked up the charger.

When i started the car, the voltage gauge is reading very high, not up to the red, but damn close.

Is it possible that i fried the voltage regulator/alternator by using the charger?

When i add load to the system (lights, turn signals etc) the needle does slightly drop, but it's still above 14

If you do not have any testing equipment take the alternator off and go to your nearest auto parts store and have it tested - it sounds like you fried the voltage regulator...

i have a multi tester, what would i be testing for? the actual voltage at the battery?

Check at alternator for 13V. or slightly below at higher RPM's (3K plenty)

i'm getting 13.69 vdc at the battery at idle, the gauge was reading 14+

i also did the LED upgrade, could that be wacking out the voltage gauge?
I only replaced the 3 main bulbs, not any of the warning lights
