5 month storage...any hints.

So the subject line says it all. I have to park my 944 until early May (I will be in Afghanistan and can't take it with me). What should I do? Disconnect battery? Fuel stabilizer? Any advice appreciated.

Thanks,

GHEN

My 944S sat for two years.

Fuel stabilizer added, tank topped off, drove the couple miles to the airport hangar where it sat, disconected the battery.

The only thing left to do was call the insurance agent and suspend coverage.

After two years, put battery cable back on terminal, and the car fired right up!

Called the insurance agent to resume coverage, and drove home.

Even passed an emission test with the old gas in it. After sitting so long, I did put in a new timing belt pretty quickly.

heated garage. fill the tank up all the way and fuel stablizer. I would change the oil too. Might put her up on jackstands to save the tires? 5 months is really not that long.

Another thing that's recomended (But I didn't do)- Pump up the tires a few pounds over max pressure. This will help prevent the tires from flat-spotting.

Jack up and store on jack stands (no flat spots on tires re check before driving), do not use E brake, leave it in gear, leave windows open a crack to help with moisture build up. top off gas and use stabilized, trickle charge the battery, wash and wax, cover with a good car cover.
