Project on the Way
Well, it's been awhile since my car was last on the road (late August), but the big day is quickly approaching.
As you might remember, in August I was driving home in the rain and hydroplaned and grazed a telephone pole. There was no major damage, but several body panels needed replacing. The car has been garaged and covered since then, and started once every week or so. Porsche parts can be very expensive, and I was looking at like $2K for the parts I needed, minus labor, towing, and paint. Luckily, I have connections. I found a running parts car for $1K, and my great mechanic agreed to pay me $500 for whatever I didn't use. The car was in Bedford MA, and I live in Bristol CT, so towing would have cost $1,200!!!! Luckily again, my uncle has access to a trailer. All the trip cost me was $30 for gas and a quart of oil. The body shop that is going to be working on my car is a friend of my uncle's and he is giving me a deal. He is also the guy that painted the bobsleds for the 2002 winter olympics. How cool is that. The car is scheduled to go into the shop on April 20. I am psyched. I will get my 944 back about a week later, better than when I bought it (the front spoiler on the parts car isn't dented like mine). Unfortunately, I will miss the first PCA regional event of the spring, but I look forward to many other autocrosses and rallys this spring and summer. Hope to see some of you there! -CJ |
