Turbo S headers :different than normal bellow headers

I managed to get my old 1986 non-bellow headers out of my 951, but then tried to put the new 1989 Turbo S header i just got with the bellows. I cannot see a way to get in right now.
I realize the bellow header are bigger, but are the Turbo S headers even bigger than those?
The only other thing i didn't have time to try was trying to raise the engine on the passenger side. Other than that, all the studs are already out, the heater tube is removed, the power steering bottle is moved, etc. I am really frustrated.

Any feedback is appreciated, even on the best spot to raid the engine safely an inch.

For reference, here is what i have done before this: Exhasut Manifold bolt missing!

Headers are the same for all the turbos, the bellows were a design change. ALL turbos now call for p/n 951.111.131.06 as a replacement for the 1-4 header.

Are you just having a problem getting it to slip in place? As in the header will not align with the studs on the head?

Loosen the COMPLETE exhaust system, including the crossover pipe and the 2-3 header. Once you have done this the 1-4 pipe should slip in. With everything bolted up tight, the crossover flange keeps the header up high enough that it won't align with the exhaust studs, and the bolt holes (on the crossover flange) usually don't align if you do manage to get the 1-4 (or 2-3) pipe mated to the head. You simply need play in the exhaust system to align everything.

Good Luck

I did some work that required the headers to come off recently. I got the 2-3 header out of the engine bay easily. I was unable to get the 1-4 out no matter what angle I tried. I was able the move the header out of the way enough to do the job. The only way to get the 1-4 in or out (as far as I can tell) is to jack the pass side of the engine, which prob will require you to remove the motor mount. Mine had the bellow type header ( 88-951).

No...... it's a big big puzzle. seriously you don't need to remove anything. they slip in and it's all good. It's like lego's but on crack with close tolerances.

If your motor mounts are collapsed removing the headers can be a challenge. I was able to remove and reinstall my "bellows type" headers without much of a problem when I did my reseal, although things were a bit tight.

Good luck, Keith

Getting them in can be a bear and like Keith said if your motor mounts are worn a little its even harder. Its one of those items that only goes in one way, takes a little 'jiggling'. But if you must, unbolt the passenger motor mount and jack the engine up.
