Speedometer not working
 

I have an 87 turbo that was recently taken out for the first time in two years. I have never driven this car so it is unknown if it worked before. The needle is sitting about an inch below the 0 hash mark and isn't budging. The trip meter reset still works. I did not notice if the odometer worked or not during the short drive. The other gauges work just fine so I don't think it is the connections.
The only results in the search are the odometer gears and the sensor on the transmission. The gauge pod has been out on several occasions, it is possible the needle got bumped. Is there any other reason why it would sit so low? Can I just manipulate it back in place?
Any help would be appreciated, not having much luck searching.

You could try checking the plug on the transmission. I know that was the issue on mine. Good Luck!

Make sure the odometer is working. You don't want to hav e to keep pulling the dash.
If the trans plug is good, make sure the connection at the gauge panel is tight. I had that problem with one of my 968's.

You are correct that the needle could have come loose. IIRC, friction is the only thing holding the needle.

Thanks, I am going to chech the trans sensor first. Is there anything I need to look for? I don't have a multimeter, a test light should work for switched power at the sensor.
I must have bumped the needle for it to sit so low. The connectors can be checked when putting the gague pod back in after fixing the needle position.

If the speedometer sensor in the transmission is bad will it cause the needle to sit below the 0 hash mark? When driving the needle will get up to 0 but not past it.

I have a lot of problems with my gauges too. The wires behind the gauges are my problem. The blue film and wires are old and cracked.

Time to change the timing belts. 2 years is a long time. That reminds me, I think I need to change mine soon.

Some one answered another post about this and stated if the odometer works but the speedometer does not then the speedometer is broken. They both work off of the speed sensor in the transmission.
