Porsche Crest 924S Cylinder Head Nut Torque Specs

Does anyone have a procedure and specs for tightening cylinder head nuts on a 1987 924S? My Haynes book says call the dealer which I will do if nobody has this info. Thanks.

Found the answer at www.clarks-garage.com. It is a three step process with the final torque at 66 ft-lbs.

Jeff you are wrong. It is a 3 step process for the 1987 924S;
Step one 15 pounds
Step 2 90 degrees
Step 3 90 degrees

http://www.clarks-garage.com/pdf-manual/cyl-03.pdf

Follow sequence per Clarks.

Wait 45 minutes to 1 hour between steps to let head and gasket set
Tap the perimeter of the head with a hammer softly to "set" the head and even the force.

The washers can be reused if scruffed on bottom. They cannot move when torqued.

Lube the head bolts with oil befor process

Get new nuts (head bolts in some catalogs)

Take your time and make sure the surfaces are cleaned with acetone and all gasket material is gone.

Check your engine number.
The engine # will dictate the tightening steps whether its a torque value method or angle method.

M44 05-08, as you have stated by torque value
M44 05-10, as John had stated by angle

Thanks bazar01,

I went by the size of my head nuts-12mm high per Clarks on my 1987 924S.

Can someone clear this up. What does this mean? Follow the bolt pattern, each nut to 15 lbs then for step 2 and 3 turn each not an actual 90%? What is the final torque supposed to be?

Step 1: 20 Nm (15 ft-lbs)
-
-
Step 2: 90° angle
-
-
Step 3: 90° angle

There is no final torque value. The factory procedure uses a method called torque angle. It means torque the nuts initially to 15ft-lbs, then turn each fastener 1/4 turn (90 degrees), then another 1/4 turn. I like to wait about an hour inbetween each stage to allow everything to 'settle'.

Important
Light oil on the head threads and do not let the washer move. Scuff the washer bottom and mark to make sure.

Final Torque???

Here, this will mess up your mind if you do not follow the 15 ft lb, 90+ 90 degree method.

Anyone ever write down what the final is? Today i did the first to 15lbs. An hours or so later i went over the head with a wood mallet taping to help seat???. Did the the second to 90 deg. Actually hard to Gage/guess an actual 90 deg. Did it with the old fastened torque bar and they were relatively close to 65 lbs.

What should the next 90 deg give me?
