Wiper turns on by itself -early car

As the title states, mostly in cold weather, seems to only turn on to intermittent.

I pulled the relay and I think I still hear something trying to switch on. I tried changing the switch for another used one, still happens.

I had the dash out and cleaned grounds, etc. a few years ago.

Thanks

Sounds like the wiper switch or the plug/wiring to it...

It might be the electrical contacts inside of the transmission.

I had the same problem a number of years ago and the plastic down by the connector in the wiper stalk in the dash had broken and was somehow causing the unit to turn on. I replaced the wiper stalk with a good used one and it was fine after that.
