Trouble getting a good radiator fan connection

Every now and then, one or the other of my radiator fans won't come on. If I wiggle the connector it comes on until I hit a bump, or it just decides to stop. I've cleaned the connectors, but it still has the same behavior. I'm thinking either the wires are brittle and snapped or it's in the motors themselves. Has anyone else had this problem?

intermittent fans

Get a volt meter, some small "SPADE LUGS" from Radio Shack or auto parts store that are the same size as the prongs in the fan plug. Crimp wires into them and insert them into the connector on the wire harness. Attach the VOM to the end of the wire leads and them manipulate the wire harness, connector and watch the VOM for fluctuations. If your readings are solid then you either have a bad or corroded connector on the fan unit or where the wires go into the fan motor. Also check the connector on the temp switch. It could be that the fan is running due to higher temp and then stops due to bad connection on the temp switch. Remember that the fan also comes on due to the A/C being on. Good luck.

Some people try to turn back their "odometers." Not me. I want people to know 'why' I look this way. I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved.

Connector on the fan unit.

Soldered joints burn out.

Third world solution is to pull the fan plastic connector completely off and attach the wire harness connector directly to the prongs.
