Gas Prices

Went down to Shell today to pump some 93 octane into my car. The price was almost $1.60/gallon. I now this might not sound bad compared to many other regions in the country, but its the highest its been over here in quite a while. Looks like the current mideast conflict is having a direct effect at what we pay at the pump.

Yes, I know we are still very lucky in comparison to what our friends in Europe have to pay....

I'm just wondering, what are gas prices like for you guys where you all live??

Right where you are... I paid $1.57 for "super" a few days ago!!

I try to fill up on "Super Tuesdays" or on "Ultra Wednesdays", when the Sunoco on the way home from work has them at 6 cents off per gallon.

Isn't price fixing illegal? Oh yeah, that's right, the oil companies aren't price fixing. They are just reacting to the market.

I'm buying the first fuel cell automobile Porsche makes.

Hahaha!!!

1 gallon = 3.78 liters... and you pay $1.60 (about 1.90 euro) for that????

If i go to a Shell station and fill her up with a gallon of Euro95 (lowest octane available here) 4.50 Euro = about $4

When i fill her up with a galon of Super98 i pay 4.70 Euro = about $4.20. All fueles are unleaded types.

How about that for fuel prices???

Deeks -- The Brits, who invented Les-a-faire economics, forgot what they learnt! Of course, we've strayed from the Queen's English -- but thats another story!

Here in Fort Worth TX 93 octane is $1.57/gal for name-brand petrol -- a bit less for Wal-Marche.

Way better than the $4.00+/gal we were paying recently in Korea (as with EU, it'd mostly taxes)

Here in Canada I was paying only $.70 a litre for 92 octane (about $2.65 a gallon). Now it is $.85 a litre, so in Canada we're paying like $3.25 a gallon.

Sweet!!!! I'm going to call Ed Begley Jr. and gets me an electric car now!!

I understand why giant SUV's are so popular in the US, even if they drink 17.5 liters / 100km it is almost for free to use them anyway.

Is it just me or are you guys tired of watching the news and having them give some BS answer as to why the gas prices are so high? These guys will do anything to justify there price increases. And all for what? They are actually putting themselves out of business! The more they charge the more people look for alternative energy. Morons!

In Europe (as in most of the world) the oil companies are charging the same as the US for a gallon of gas +/- a few pennies for additives and local economies/regulations. It isn't the oil companies that are making your gas 1 Euro per liter...its the taxes. Strip 90% of the taxes and you also have a .40 Euro liter of gas too.

We responded to that type of robery once when a bunch of colonial rebels dumped tons of the King's tea into Boston Harbor.

*Please note that I don't advocate dumping gas into the water.

Don't worry, it's to expensive to dump in the water. I leave that to drunken tanker skippers and other morons who destroys our seas and archipelago.

And about taxes: It is just a matter of how to pay things, I'm not very happy about paying the worlds maybe highest taxes but I like paying almost nothing for health care and my university studies cost ~$40 / year in school fee.

Scott R has a good point. Actually, I work for a small oil & gas e&p company and as an industry we are slowly going out of business. When OPEC sends the price of oil below about $22/bbl, we go out of business much faster since that is about the industry breakeven cost for finding and producing in the continental US. Lots of years we would do much better to produce and sell drinking water. We all NEED to be searching for alternatives. We aren't out of oil, just cheap oil. How bout a coal burning P car?

You may have it backward -- we're not yet out of cheap oil YET -- that's why the Sadis etc are able to flood the market (dumping?), put people out of business, and then really jack the prices up. They have something like 50-100 year reserve, if the news guy on TV was right (that's where I get my in-depth coverage).

Like you have $250/oz, $300/oz etc gold. As the price of gold goes up, then it make more sense to go digging after more expensive gold -- same with oil. It can be self correcting unless it is being controlled by a cartel (OPEC or DeBeers (diamonds) -- no different).
