I'm replacing the engine due to a broken timing belt,so I was wondering if I could put a better engine then the one removed

on one hand, you have your original engine, that has broken timing belt and damaged valvetrain in gradient of "almost none" to "catastrophic". which will cost between $200 (tb+wp kit) and $1500 to get back to running order

on the other hand, you have some used engine that someone's selling that either ran recently or condition unknown. once u get that engine, u'd really want to spend an additional $300-500 replacing tb+wp, rod bearings, main bearings, seals, whatever else.

your choice

there are a few differences beatwean new and old engines but if you have it two then are easy to swap:
mecanical
-crankshaft pulley
-alternator braket(maybe if ramin yours don't need to change but cheac it)
-alternator and AC belt
-metal heathing hose on exaust side
-fuel rail(intake and exaust f gas tube)

electric
-gauge temperature sensor(not same jack and dimension)
-AFM
-maybe alternator but i'm not sure-different bracket

the alternator/ac/crankschaft pulleys are differnt because of slightly differents belts so try to mach yours cars setup(same pulleys and conponents) and you don't have troubles

But if is only a head job and only the valves are worn it is easy to just replace the valves(used ones),take a head gasket rebuild kit and a timing kit to be in peace.
If you take apart the engine take a look to the clutch,it's easyer when is out

a head gasket job is normal on every car that have more than 10 years
