Why are part prices soooo vast??

I have been looking for spark plug wires for my 944S. As some of you may know - the S wires are more expensive than the N/A wires.

It is incredible, the price differences from different places.....

First place I check, of course, was Pelican. The prices here are what is "the norm", with a bit of a lean towards the price being a better than average price......

So, I call some other places here in Canada, just to get a price range feel. Nuts!!!! They quoted me prices at LEAST twice that of Pelican. Some other American companies I called were around the Pelican price, but most were higher. One company (will remained unnamed) quoted me a price that was 3 times higher than Pelican - this company should "tweek" their prices a bit.

Was just curious how a part can have that much of a price range?? Are there people out there who just call a place, and then order without price comparing??

I can see a small deviation in prices - but I have never come across such a vast difference in my life......just wanted to share.

Another question on this thread (I've noticed the same trend in parts - ignition wires especialy):
What are the deficits in a cheaper set?

The lowest price I have gotten was on Magnacore wires, but I have heard that they have resistors in the wires and the ends(??) - I don't know what that means. Does this make them "cheaper". I've been told to stay away from Bosch. The original are Beru, but I guess the connectors are what is most important. Most after market ones have Beru connectors with other wire.

I was also told that I can just buy the wire that screws into the connectors - anyone heard of this????

Probably won't last as long, that's all.
