944 NA - A couple of topics
Hello there!
1) I got a brand new set of wheels (MSW cheap but looks very good), they say: 7Jx16 ET23 8Jx16 ET11 What would be the best looking option in terms of tire size? Porsche recommends 205/55 front and 225/50 rear, but I read everywhere 225/50 front and 245/45 rear (?) 2) Radiator replacement. This is AT, so the radiator helps also the ATF to stay cool --> harder to be replaced (I think) and no instructions at all. Abybody there did this job? Can you assist me by wirting step by step instructions? Thanks for any help!!

Have you checked Clark's Garage Home Page for the info on the radiator replacement?
It shouldn't be too hard of a job, there may just be extra fittings for the trans cooler?

Yes you're correct, but how to restore the ATF that goes out of the circuit?
Clarks says "On models with automatic transmissions, disconnect the transmission fluid hoses at the radiator and plug the holes" which sounds ok but not enough I think... |

I wouldn't worry about losing a small amount of fluid. On the contrary, I would take the opportunity to drain it completely and renew the fluid.

Tire Sizes -
While Porsche recommends the use of the 205/55-16 front and 225/50-16 rear for the best overall gas mileage, and this includes speedometer settings. The larger size tires, 225/50-16 and 245/45-16 will probably be slightly better on highway longer miles for gas mileage. The smaller (Ever so slight) 225/50-16 will be better for stop and go performance and mileage. Speedometer calculations are very close on both sizes. If you have a '83 to '85 with the front wheel speedo drive when you are doing 60mph with the 205/55-16 front the larger 225/50-16 front tire will actually be doing 59.5mph - to close to bother. If you have a 85.5 and up with the 225/50-16 in the rear and the speedo is registering 60 (Electronic rear speedo drive), but with the larger/wider 245/45-16 in the rear you will actually be doing 59.8, again very close. So your choice between looks and the possibility that the smaller tires may be slightly more responsive in stop and go driving - or ??

Go with 225/50 front and 245/45 rear, more traction, better braking. Size isn't an issue for speedo reading. It will either read a tiny bit high or low depending on the tire brand, negligible.

Thanks for the advice.
Still in doubt because of the ET of my wheels. Today the wheels have arrived (old MSW wheels). After the upcoming refurbishment, begin of April I'm going to install them. My car has no ABS, what would be the car look with 245 in the back and 225 in front? I don't want a super aggressive look.. That's the question!! |
